Within a 10-mile radius of Crockett County, there are several excellent health care facilities. Jackson offers two hospitals with a combined capacity of 732 beds, a speech and hearing center, private clinics, including the state's largest, several facilities for the handicapped, a mental health center, eight nursing homes, a blood bank, and a 24-hour surgical center.

Also, in the nearby towns of Brownsville, Humboldt and Trenton, there are hospitals, physicians and dentists available.

Locally, Alamo has two doctors, one dentist, one optometrist and three home healthcare centers. Friendship has one medical doctor. Mayfield Clinic, located in Bells, has two doctors and one dentist. Medical clinics in Bells and Alamo are staffed by a nurse practitioner.

The Crockett County Health Department, located in Alamo, provides the following health services: family planning, diagnosis of communicable diseases, WIC, diabetic screening, prenatal, blood pressure screening, crippled children, a speech and hearing program, and a vocation rehabilitation program.

Bells Nursing Home, Incorporated, located in Bells, opened in 1989 with 120 beds and 130 employees. The Crockett Nursing Home is located in Alamo with 120 beds and 110 employees. There is one assisted care facility with 10 beds and one independent living with 35 beds in the county.

Memphis (1 00 miles) has become one of the outstanding regional medical centers in the United States. Its complex of private and public hospitals has a bed capacity of over 4,000 and accepts patients from all areas of the mid-south.

Crockett County Ambulance Service is located in Alamo and offers 24-hour service with three ambulances. Ambulance staff members are certified as E.M.Ts. or paramedics. The ambulance service is located in a building adjacent to the Police Department.
